Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Nana Oduro Sarfo has emphatically opined the absence of Thomas Partey will not negatively impact the Black Stars in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The midfield gem has been sidelined due to a lengthy injury at Arsenal and hasn’t played competitively since October 8, 2023.
This has propelled Chris Hughton not to include him is the 27squad for the upcoming tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast
“I don’t see why we should carry an injured player to the African Cup of Nations, the injury is something we cannot hide, it is out there in the public,” He told Citi Sports.
“If Partey is injured, i don’t see why we should take, i just hope we get another Partey at the AFCON.”
Black Stars will open camp on Tuesday, January 2 in Kumasi and will face Namibia in a friendly game at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The final 27-man squad will depart for Ivory Coast on January 10.
Ghana is in Group B for the tournament and will face Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in the tournament which will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.
The 34th edition of the AFCON has been scheduled to kick off from January 13 to February 11.
