Chelsea’s new £117m signing Morgan Rogers has inflamed the long-running rivalry with Arsenal fans by declaring the Blues “the biggest club in London” within hours of completing his move to Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old England forward has joined from Aston Villa on a long-term deal running until 2033, Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday evening.

Multiple English media outlets reported that the move is worth around £117m (€138m), making Rogers the second-costliest transfer ever in the Premier League.
Only Alexander Isak’s £125m switch from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer is believed to have cost more, underlining the scale of Chelsea’s investment in their latest recruit.
The deal also represents another major statement of intent from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, who have repeatedly targeted emerging talents on lengthy contracts as part of a long-term squad-building strategy.
Arsenal beaten to key target
Arsenal were understood to be among the leading contenders for Rogers’ signature earlier in the current transfer window and had made efforts to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
The North London club were reported to have held strong interest in the versatile attacker, only for Chelsea to step in and finalise the agreement with Aston Villa.
Losing out on Rogers to a direct London rival is likely to be viewed as a setback by Arsenal supporters, and his first public comments as a Chelsea player are unlikely to ease that frustration.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the move was confirmed, Rogers said his admiration for the club dated back to his childhood – and he did not shy away from taking a stance in the capital’s footballing debate.
He said: “انا متحمس للغاية. بالنسبة لي، تشيلسي هو اكبر ناد في لندن، لطالما اعجبت به منذ ان كنت طفلا”.
Translated, the forward expressed that he is “very excited” and that, in his view, “Chelsea is the biggest club in London”, adding that he had always admired the Blues since he was a child.
That remark is likely to be interpreted as a clear dig at Arsenal, with whom Chelsea fans frequently argue over which is the capital’s dominant club.
The rivalry between the two sets of supporters has intensified over the past two decades, fuelled by title battles, cup finals and high-profile transfers between London sides.
Excitement over Xabi Alonso project
Rogers also highlighted his enthusiasm for working under new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso and becoming part of the club’s rebuilding project.
He added: “انا متحمس للغاية للمشروع مع المدرب الجديد، واللاعبين الذين لدينا، والوجهة التي يتجه اليها النادي. لهذا السبب انا هنا، ولا اطيق الانتظار لبدء العمل”.
In English, he explained that he is “very excited about the project with the new coach, the players we have, and the direction the club is going”, saying this is why he chose Chelsea and that he “cannot wait to get started”.
Alonso, who impressed in his previous managerial role on the continent, is tasked with moulding a young and expensively-assembled squad into a team capable of challenging for major honours again.
Rogers’ arrival gives him another attacking option, with the player able to operate across the front line.
