Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has blamed Chris Hughton’s poor tactics for Black Stars defeat to Cape Verde in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana’s campaign took an unexpected turn as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Ivory Coast.
The team poor start saw them trail in the 17th minute after Jamiro Monteiro capitalized on a rebound, giving the Blue Sharks an early lead.
After several efforts to get back into the game, Ghana found an equalizer through Alexander Djiku’s well-executed header.
However, hopes of salvaging a point were shattered as Cape Verde stunned them with a late goal by Garry Rodrigues.
“The coach (Chris Hughton) has a problem, tactically he has been very poor. When his tactics are not going right, he worsens it with his substitutions,” He told Happy FM.
“Ghana is the only one to have lost so far, which is very poor. Nigeria didn’t lose, neither did Cameroon, Egypt, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and the others.”
Black Stars face a tough challenge ahead as they prepare to take on the Pharaohs of Egypt on Thursday, January 18, in their quest for redemption in the AFCON tournament.
