As the 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections approach, seasoned football administrator Micky Charles has raised allegations against incumbent President Kurt Okraku.
Charles asserted that Okraku is actively pursuing a strategy to secure an uncontested victory in the upcoming elections.
He believes that Okraku’s approach is designed to dissuade potential challengers, potentially undermining the democratic process within the GFA.
These claims from Micky Charles were made in response to the Appeals Committee’s recent decision to uphold the disqualification of George Afriyie from the GFA Presidential race.
Charles expressed his perplexity at the decision, highlighting specific concerns about the Appeals Committee’s ruling.
He pointed out the case of Marianne Serwaa, a committee member who, in his view, did not ask any questions during the vetting process. Charles argued that, based on the GFA statutes, the association had the authority to appoint her, but her limited participation in questioning candidates was unusual.
He further questioned the necessity for all committee members to pose questions during the vetting process, emphasizing that not all committee members typically engage candidates in this manner.
“What they are doing I don’t understand yesterday I read the decision and when I look at the Appeals Committee’s decision which they wrote what are they trying to tell us? The lady called Marianne Serwaa who was sitting there if you read our statutes GFA has the right to add her because she didn’t ask any question,” he told Peace FM
“Who has gone to a vetting and all the committee members has asked questions before there is nowhere that when you go for vetting all the committee members should ask you questions. Like I have said somebody has told Kurt that this elections he has to go unopposed by force,” he added.
As things stand, Kurt Okraku will go unopposed in the Elective Congress which is scheduled to take place on September 27 at the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale.
