Monday evening brings us action from Down Under and features this upcoming A-League clash between the league leaders, Melbourne City, and their 6th placed visitors, Wellington Phoenix, when the two teams meet at AAMI Park.
Although Melbourne City sit top of the A-League though, everything is on the line for the Monday night’s hosts as they now only hold a slender one-point cushion over their 2nd placed rivals, Melbourne Victory, and indeed, 3rd placed Western United, with all three Victorian clubs vying for the top two places.
A chance to win silverware at home doesn’t come around every day.
See you on Monday night, City fans ?

Melbourne City will also be desperate to avoid a third league defeat on the trot on Monday evening following recent disappointing defeats to Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory in 3-0 and 2-0 losses.
But they did record a comprehensive 6-0 win over Monday’s opponents, Wellington Phoenix in early April which they’ll be hoping they can repeat at AAMI Park in this final game of the regular Australian top flight campaign.
The hosts are unbeaten in their last six home games too.
Wellington Phoenix currently occupy 6th place in the A-League standings and therefore sit in the last play-off spot prior to this weekend’s action.
Bbut although they’ve already booked a place in the upcoming play-offs, the New Zealand outfit will also be wanting to grab the three points as they seek the most favourable placing for the play-off fixtures.
Recent results have produced a bit of a mixed bag of returns for Wellington who have won four of their last six matches with victories over Western United, Perth Glory and home and away wins against Western Sydney Wanderers overshadowing defeats to Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory.
Wellington will also be keen to produce a much better showing against Melbourne City after the recent 6-0 thrashing that was handed to them by the league leaders at the start of last month.
And having also won four out of their last six matches away from home (which is no mean feat given the long distances they have had to travel), The Phoenix look to have a reasonable chance of gaining a favourable result in Melbourne on Monday night.
Melbourne City remain hot favourites though and the hosts will be eager to set the record straight here with a win on the final day of the season.
