Medeama SC have begun the final stages of their preparations for the 2026/27 season with a 2-1 victory over Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan.
Jacob Amu Mensah and Prince Owusu scored for the Ghana Premier League champions as they secured their second win in three friendly matches during a three-week residential training camp in Ivory Coast.
The result provides another positive outcome for head coach Ibrahim Tanko, who is using the camp to assess his squad and improve the players’ match fitness before the new campaign begins.
Medeama produced a disciplined display at the ASEC Mimosas Training Centre, where they competed effectively against their hosts before claiming a narrow victory. The Ghanaian side showed enough resilience to protect their lead and complete another useful test during their stay in Ivory Coast.
Their latest success means Medeama have recorded two wins and one draw from three friendly matches since arriving in the country. The results have given Tanko further opportunities to evaluate his players in competitive match conditions as he continues to shape the squad for the season ahead.
Amu Mensah and Owusu provided the goals that ultimately separated the teams, with Medeama finishing the encounter as 2-1 winners. The match formed part of the club’s planned programme during their three-week training camp, designed to help the players prepare for the demands of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Tarkwa-based club are expected to play two more friendly matches before bringing their Ivory Coast camp to an end. They will then return to Ghana to complete their preparations for the new season.
Medeama will enter the campaign seeking to maintain their standing as Ghana Premier League champions and defend their domestic credentials. Their schedule will also include continental competition, with the club set to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League after winning the Ghana Premier League title.
The victory over ASEC Mimosas therefore gives Tanko and his squad another encouraging result as they work towards both domestic and African commitments. With two further friendlies still planned, Medeama have more opportunities to build fitness, assess their options and refine their preparations before the competitive season begins.
