Ampem Darkoa Ladies began their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B WAFU Qualifiers campaign with a victory over defending WAFU B champions ASEC Mimosas.
The Ghana Women’s League champions produced a dominant performance to take an early advantage in Group B, which also includes Edo Queens FC of Nigeria and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
The result puts Ampem Darkoa Ladies in pole position in the group before their second match against AS Garde Nationale on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
The Ghanaian side had goalkeeper Rose Baah to thank for keeping them in contention during the opening stages. Baah saved a penalty in the sixth minute, denying ASEC Mimosas an opportunity to take the lead.
That intervention proved crucial as Ampem Darkoa grew into the contest and eventually found the decisive moment through Gloria Adomako. Her cross separated the two sides and secured the opening victory for the Ghanaian champions.
Baah’s contribution was recognised after the match when she was named player of the match.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies entered the qualifying tournament as Ghana’s representative after winning the Ghana Women’s League. They were placed in Group B alongside Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas, Nigeria’s Edo Queens FC and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
Their victory over ASEC Mimosas gives them an important platform as they pursue progress to the next stage of the competition. The Nanamma will now be expected to carry the confidence from their opening win into their meeting with AS Garde Nationale.
Qualification from the group is the immediate objective for Ampem Darkoa, with reaching the next stage and eventually securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League considered paramount.
The win also provides an early boost in a group containing the reigning WAFU B champions. With their opening match settled by Adomako’s decisive cross and Baah’s penalty save, Ampem Darkoa will be looking to build on that performance in their next fixture.
Their match against AS Garde Nationale on Thursday will offer the Ghanaian team the chance to strengthen their position and move closer to the next phase of the qualifying competition.
