Medeama SC have booked a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup after defeating FC Samartex 1996 in a fiercely contested Round of 16 clash on Saturday.
The encounter at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa ended goalless after regulation time, forcing the tie to be decided by a penalty shootout.
It was the Yellow and Mauves who held their nerve from the spot, securing a 4–2 win on penalties to progress to the last eight of the competition.
Both sides created decent scoring opportunities throughout the match but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal, resulting in a 0–0 stalemate at full time. The deadlock meant penalties were required to determine the winner.
Medeama converted four of their kicks, while the Timber Boys managed just two, bringing Samartex’s cup journey to an end.
The victory keeps Medeama’s strong season on track as they continue their push for domestic silverware. The Tarkwa-based side remain in contention for a potential league and cup double, having reached the FA Cup quarter-finals while also sitting at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
