Ghana Premier League champions Medeama S.C. will begin their CAF Champions League campaign against five-time winners Tout Puissant (T.P.) Mazembe in the preliminary round.

Medeama S.C. will play the first leg at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa during the weekend of 4-6 September 2026. The Ghanaian champions will then travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return fixture the following weekend.

The tie will revive a rivalry between the two clubs that began in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage in 2016.

T.P. Mazembe won the first meeting 3-1 in Lubumbashi on 19 June that year. Medeama S.C. responded in the second leg, beating the Congolese side 3-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium a month later.

The winner of this season’s preliminary-round tie will face either Tunisia’s Club Africain or Mali’s Djoliba AC in the second preliminary round.

Medeama S.C. are currently in the Ivory Coast as part of their preparations for the new campaign. They began their pre-season programme with a 2-1 victory over Yamoussokro F.C. in a friendly on Wednesday.

The Tarkwa-based club secured their place in the CAF Champions League after winning the Ghana Premier League, while Nations F.C. will represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup after lifting the FA Cup.

Nations F.C. have been drawn against F.C. Diarra in the opening round of that competition. The Malian club will host the first leg between 4 and 6 September 2026, before Nations F.C. stage the return match in Ghana during the weekend of 11-13 September.

If Nations F.C. progress, they will meet the winner of the tie between Niger’s AS Zam and Togo’s ASKO de Kara in the second preliminary round.

Medeama S.C. will therefore face a demanding route into the Champions League group stage, with T.P. Mazembe providing a significant test in the opening round. Their previous two meetings produced 11 goals across both legs, with each club recording a victory.

For now, Medeama S.C.’s preparations are continuing in the Ivory Coast, where their opening friendly win against Yamoussokro F.C. has provided an early boost before their continental campaign begins.
