The Bono East Regional Police Administration has closed the Kwame-Danso Police Station in Ghana’s Sene West District after police and judicial service personnel were attacked by some irate young people in the town.
The incident happened on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, when police took a suspect before a court in Kwame-Danso, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, the Bono East Regional Police Commander.
DCoP Sadique-Osei said the decision to close the station was taken as a result of the attack. He described the incident as unfortunate, but said calm had since been restored in the area.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Techiman, he appealed to residents to work with the police to tackle crime instead of attacking officers responsible for protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.
The regional police commander also said policing in the modern era was a shared responsibility. He urged the people of Kwame-Danso to support the work of the security services and to remain law-abiding.
The closure means police operations at the station have been suspended while discussions continue on the circumstances surrounding its reopening. DCoP Sadique-Osei said the Regional Police Commander was working with Police Headquarters in Accra to make that possible.
He also called on residents to remain calm while the process was under way.
The police administration reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining public safety. DCoP Sadique-Osei said the service remained ready to carry out that duty, while stressing that cooperation from local communities was essential.
The attack involved both police personnel and members of the judicial service who were present during proceedings connected to the arraignment of the suspect. No further details about the suspect, the court proceedings or the nature of the attack were provided.
Police said calm had returned to Kwame-Danso following the incident, but the station will remain closed while the regional command and Police Headquarters consider its reopening.
The Sene West District is part of Ghana’s Bono East Region, whose police administration is responsible for the station. The regional command has advised residents not to take actions that could obstruct the work of officers or judicial staff.
DCoP Sadique-Osei repeated the appeal for law and order and urged residents to support efforts to control crime through cooperation with the police rather than confrontation.
