On Wednesday night, Mansfield Town will attempt to boost their League Two play-off hopes when they host Grimsby Town at the One Call Stadium.
The Stags’ chances of landing one of those all-important play-off spots have taken a hit because of a poor recent run of league form that has seen Nigel Clough’s team win just one of their previous four league games.
Last time out in League Two, they drew 1-1 with Stockport County. However, the home side is still just three points adrift of the league’s top seven in the hunt for promotion via the play-offs.
A highly unconvincing home record has also hampered Town’s chances of claiming a play-off berth, as Mansfield has won just three of their previous ten league games on home soil.
They have remained relatively prolific on home soil in League Two, as Clough’s team has scored at least two goals in five of their previous seven games.
The Mariners currently sit in 15th place in the League Two table, 14 points from the play-off berths and 14 points above the relegation zone. Last time out, they exited the FA Cup, as they were hammered 5-0 at Premier League Brighton.
The defeat ended a three-game unbeaten run for Town. They have also been difficult to beat, as Grimsby have lost just one of their last seven matches in League Two.
Grimsby has a highly unconvincing recent away record in League Two, as they have won three of their last five league matches on their travels.
However, they have also lost seven of their previous ten away games in the English fourth tier.
