“Managing the Black Stars is a dream come true” – Chris Hughton

New Black Stars coach Chris Hughton says it is a dream come true to land the Ghana job.

Hughton, 64, will be taking charge of his first assignment as National team manager after spells in the Premier League with teams such as Brighton, Newcastle, Norwich & Nottingham Forrest.

The Former Republic of Ireland International brings on board a wealth of experience from coaching in England’s top flight as well as the Championship and is expected to tap into that knowledge reserve to change the fortunes of the Black Stars.

Hughton, who also hails from Ghana through his late father Willie Hughton, told SuperSport it was a huge honor for him to manage the country of his father’s birth.

“Yes, it is [a dream a come true]. When you’re a player that goes into coaching or management, what you want to be doing is managing at the highest level.”

“And managing at the highest level is managing in your own country on the international stage, and at this particular moment, managing the country of my father’s birth is a big honour,” Hughton told SuperSport TV.

Chris Hughton’s first match in charge of the Black Stars will be on Thursday, 23rd March 2023 when Ghana take on Angola in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
