Leicester City in talks to extend Daniel Amartey’s contract

English Premier League side Leicester City are in talks to extend the contract of defender Daniel Amartey, according to a report.

The Ghana international has six months left on his current deal which means it’s a crucial period for both the player and the club.

Amartey has been key of the club this season, making 15 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions.

He joined Leicester City from FC Copenhagen on a four-and-a-half-year contract for a fee around the region of up to £6 million.

In his first season, Amartey featured five times as Leicester City won the Premier League title.

He made his debut for the club in 1-0 home league win over Norwich City on 27th February 2016.

The following season, Amartey became a first team regular following the departure of N’Golo Kanté partnering teammate Danny Drinkwater in the central midfield role but broke his ankle in a game against West Ham United and was out for nearly a year.

He recovered from the injury and put up impressive performances, starting for Leicester as they defeated Manchester City to clinch the 2021 FA Community Shield.

Amartey is a valued member of the squad and is also one who will not demand a ridiculous pay rise.
