Sudan national team head coach Kwasi Appiah expressed mixed emotions after his side’s 2-0 victory over Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.
Appiah, a former Black Stars coach, saw his Falcons of Jediane deal a significant blow to Ghana’s AFCON hopes in Libya, with goals from Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud and Mohamed Abdelrahman sealing the win.
“It’s unfortunate for Ghana. Ghana has a good team but it’s unfortunate that only one of us can go through. I’m happy we’ve been able to put a smile on Sudanese faces,” Appiah said.
The result complicates Ghana’s path to qualification for AFCON 2025, while Sudan’s win strengthens their position in Group F.
Sudan now sits second in the group with seven points, while Ghana is third with just two points after four matches.
