Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has issued a strong message to players considering representing the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that only those with genuine passion for the country will be welcomed.
The GFA boss made his stance clear following Ghana’s qualification for the global showpiece, achieved through a 1–0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.
His remarks come amid reports that several foreign-born footballers of Ghanaian descent including Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Francis Amuzu have expressed interest in joining the national team following Ghana’s World Cup qualification.
In an interview with 3Sports, Okraku said: “I don’t want mercenaries coming to Ghana.
“I don’t want players jumping on board just because we’ve qualified for the Mundial. I want players who love Ghana, who play from the heart, with passion, and are proud to represent the nation in every competition.”
The Black Stars, who famously reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, will now look to surpass that historic feat when the 2026 tournament kicks off across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
