Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah is facing a race against time to be fit for the decisive CAF Confederation Cup second leg tie against Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco.

The in-form forward, who has already netted four goals in five matches this season, is struggling with a lingering ankle injury that worsened during the first leg in Kumasi.

Despite fitness concerns, head coach Karim Zito included him in the starting lineup, a decision that backfired as Amoah appeared off the pace throughout the game.

Amoah’s discomfort was evident early on, as he repeatedly clutched his hamstring and ankle following challenges from Wydad’s defenders.

His condition deteriorated after another knock in the second half, forcing him to limp through the remainder of the match.

The 24-year-old has been nursing the injury since Kotoko’s 2-0 win over Gold Stars two weeks ago, when a heavy tackle left him sidelined for several training sessions. Sources close to the club say he only managed one full session before the Wydad encounter.

Kotoko officials have remained silent on the striker’s availability for the return leg in Casablanca, but if he fails to recover in time, new signing Donzo Morifing is expected to spearhead the attack.

The Porcupine Warriors trail 1-0 on aggregate and will need to overturn the deficit on Sunday to secure a place in the Confederation Cup group stage for the first time since 2019.
