Kotoko striker Stephen Mukwala joins Uganda ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Top scorer for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Stephen Dese Mukwala, has arrived at Uganda’s training base ahead of crunch 2026 World Cup qualifying ties for the Cranes.

Mukwala has been Kotoko’s go-to guy all season, scoring 14 goals, including 4 goals against bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak across both home and away fixtures.

The striker’s fine form, however, does not reflect on the general team performance, with the Porcupine Warriors on 43 points, placing them in 10th position in the ongoing season.

Kotoko, who have key players such as goalkeeper Frederick Asare and Dese Mukwala on international duty, face Real Tamale United and Bofoakwa Tano before the end of the season.

Mukwala, who missed from the spot in the Porcupine Warriors last league game against great Olympics, has contributed immensely for the team, scoring 46% of the team’s total goals.

Despite being a huge blow for Kotoko, Mukwala is bent on steering Uganda to a first-ever World Cup appearance but face an uphill task in overcoming Botswana and Algeria in this International window.

Uganda (have amassed 3 points from two group games and hope Mukwala -who scored against Ghana in March’s International friendly- finds his scoring boots.
