Kotoko Not Surprised by Karim Zito Resignation – Sarfo Duku

Asante Kotoko’s Communication Director, Sarfo Duku, has revealed that the club was not taken aback by the resignation of head coach Abdul Karim Zito following the team’s recent struggles.

Zito stepped down on Monday after Kotoko’s elimination from the Ghana FA Cup, where the Porcupine Warriors suffered a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium after a goalless draw in regulation time. His departure came less than 24 hours after the painful exit, with the club subsequently appointing Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach.

Speaking to Luv FM, Sarfo Duku explained that the coach’s decision did not come as a shock to management, noting that Zito had been visibly dissatisfied with the team’s performances in recent weeks. According to him, the technical bench was aware of the coach’s frustrations, making his resignation somewhat expected.

Duku also dismissed suggestions that the club had planned to sack Zito prior to his decision to step down. He stated that management had intended to first receive a full technical report on the FA Cup defeat and assess the situation before taking any action.
