Former Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has spoken publicly about his resignation from the club, expressing pride and satisfaction over what he describes as a rewarding and successful spell with the Porcupine Warriors.

Zito explained that his decision to step down came after discussions with the club’s management, stressing that the exit was mutual and not clouded by bitterness. According to him, he leaves Kumasi with his reputation intact and his achievements firmly established in the club’s recent history.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the veteran tactician maintained a confident tone about his legacy. “I resigned from my position following a meeting with management, but I am a happy man. I remain a legend of the club,” he stated.

Appointed last season, Zito managed a total of 37 competitive matches, recording 19 victories, 11 draws, and only seven defeats. His team was noted for its defensive solidity, keeping 19 clean sheets while conceding just 31 goals and scoring 50 in attack — statistics that highlighted both balance and discipline under his leadership.

Perhaps the most defining aspect of his tenure was the silverware. During his time in charge, Kotoko lifted four trophies — the MTN FA Cup, the Ghana Super Cup, the Toyota Cup in South Africa, and the President’s Cup — a haul that places his short reign among the most productive in the club’s modern era.

Zito also used the opportunity to thank the club’s supporters, acknowledging the role their encouragement played throughout his time at the helm. He emphasized that achieving multiple titles within less than a year was a collective effort between the technical team, players, and the passionate fan base.

His departure brings an end to a chapter characterized by trophies, tactical organization, and a sense of personal fulfillment — a legacy Zito believes will continue to be remembered fondly by the Kotoko faithful.
