Kotoko direct legal team to begin processes at CAS in respect of Richmond Lamptey’s ban

Asante Kotoko are heading to the Court of Arbitration for Sports to appeal Richmond Lamptey’s two-years, six months (30 months) ban over match fixing scandal by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The management of the Porcupine Warriors this morning have directed their legal team to begin processes at CAS in respect of the 25-year-old’s appeal.

According to the GFA’s verdict released, Lamptey was charged on two counts for breaching Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier league regulations,2019 and Article 26(1) & (2) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019.

“That Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.”

Lamptey joined the Porcupine Warriors from Inter Allies on a three-year deal prior to the start of the 2021/22 season.

He was one of the outstanding players in the Inter Allies squad last season scoring three goals and providing two assists in 27 matches for the club.  He also scooped four man of the match awards.

His former club, Inter Allies will be demoted to the Division Two League after being found guilty of match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game against Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

This follows an extensive investigation into their game against Inter Allies in July 2021. The said match saw Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0 involving two own goals.

Later, Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah, who came into the game as a second-half substitute and bagged two own goals, confessed to deliberately putting the ball behind his own goalkeeper with intentions of foiling what he suspected was a standing, fixed 5-0 scoreline.

Inter Allies suffered relegation last season after finishing 18th on the league with 26 points, while Ashanti Gold finished 9th on the standings.
