Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says his side is still developing on-field understanding despite beginning their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season with a win.
The Porcupine Warriors edged Berekum Chelsea 1-0 away, thanks to a superb strike from Albert Amoah after an assist from new recruit Hubert Gyau.
Although satisfied with the result, Zito stressed that the team’s cohesion remains a challenge following the addition of 15 new players during the off-season.
“I’m very happy we had a nice start here [in Berekum]; we will use that to motivate ourselves against Kwara [United]…we are still working, we are not yet there,” he said after the game.
He added: “We just started the league…we have about 15 players so the gelling [of the team] is a problem but definitely, this is no excuse.”
Kotoko now turn their attention to continental duty, as they prepare to host Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie on Sunday, September 21.
