Kofi Adams lays Sports Fund Bill before Parliament to boost athlete support

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has officially presented the Sports Fund Bill to Parliament, aiming to secure long-term, reliable financing for all sporting disciplines in Ghana.

For years, inadequate funding has held back Ghanaian athletes on the international stage. Adams believes the new fund will provide a sustainable remedy, offering direct support to federations, associations, and athletes across the country.

The minister stressed that the initiative is designed to drive development beyond football, noting that several disciplines have been stalled by chronic financial constraints.

The fund will draw revenue from Parliamentary allocations, sports lotteries, betting levies, gate proceeds, athlete transfer fees, sponsorships, grants, and contributions from international federations, among others.

Adams expressed confidence that once the bill is approved, it will put an end to recurring financial setbacks and accelerate growth across Ghana’s sports sector.

“When approved, we will not have the challenges of funding our sports, and sports will grow to bring about development and support other progressive activities in this country,” he said.
