Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie has rejoined the Black Satellites in Egypt ahead of their pivotal quarter-final clash against host nation Egypt in the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025.
Afriyie had briefly departed the national camp on Tuesday to fulfil club duties with his Spanish side, CD Lujo, in a pre-arranged league fixture—an agreement coordinated between the Ghana Football Association and the club prior to the tournament’s start. With his club appearance now complete, the 19-year-old striker is back in the fold and available for selection as Ghana prepares for its biggest challenge yet.
The dynamic forward has already made his mark in the competition, featuring as a substitute in Ghana’s opening group match and playing the full 90 minutes in their tightly contested second fixture against Senegal. Known for his sharp movement and attacking spark, Afriyie adds depth and energy to Coach Desmond Ofei’s attacking options.
“We’re very pleased to have Jerry back,” said Coach Desmond Ofei. “He’s a key part of our attacking setup. We understand the importance of his club commitments, and we’re thankful to CD Lujo for their understanding and collaboration. His return gives us a boost at just the right time.”
