Bibiani GoldStars defender William Dankyi says winning the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title marks the successful completion of his mission with the club.
The former Hearts of Oak left-back played a crucial role in GoldStars’ historic campaign, helping the team clinch their first-ever top-flight title just four years after earning promotion.
Dankyi, who previously won the league with Hearts in 2020/21, brought experience and composure to a backline that conceded just 21 goals all season — the fewest in the league.
Speaking after GoldStars’ emphatic 4-0 victory over Accra Lions on the final day to seal the title, Dankyi said:
“I’ve achieved my target with Bibiani GoldStars. When I joined, the ambition was to compete at the highest level and to help this club make history. That dream has come true.”
Dankyi joined the GoldStars project looking for a fresh challenge after his time with Hearts, and quickly established himself as a dependable presence in Frimpong Manso’s well-drilled side.
His overlapping runs and defensive solidity were vital throughout the season, especially in tight games that defined the title race.
With two league titles now to his name at two different clubs, Dankyi’s stock continues to rise. However, the defender remains grounded and focused on helping the team prepare for their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
“ we will have to prepare mentally and all because in Africa it is very difficult . there are better teams out there so we have to prepare well” he added.
GoldStars will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League as they look to build on this season’s success with even greater ambition.
