Chief Executive Officer of Accra Lions, Obiri Yeboah, has admitted that the club’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League is a fair reflection of their performance over the course of the season.
The Accra-based club finished bottom of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League table, bringing an end to their three-year stay in the top flight.
Despite a spirited fight in the final weeks, including a crushing 4-0 defeat to Bibiani GoldStars on the last day, the Lions were unable to claw their way out of the drop zone.
Speaking in the aftermath of the season, Obiri Yeboah said:
“The table is a fair reflection of our quality. We simply didn’t do enough, and that’s the reality. We lacked consistency, struggled with injuries, and couldn’t convert key chances — and those things always catch up with you.”
Accra Lions managed just 35 points from 34 matches, with only seven wins throughout the campaign. Their defensive frailties were exposed as they conceded the second-highest number of goals in the league, and despite flashes of brilliance from a few young talents, the squad lacked the depth to compete across the season.
Yeboah, however, remains hopeful for the future and hinted at a rebuild in Division One, focusing on nurturing the club’s young core and returning stronger.
“This is not the end of our story. We’ve learned valuable lessons, and we’re going to regroup. The goal is to bounce back, more prepared and more resilient,” he said.
With relegation confirmed, Accra Lions now shift focus to the Division One League, where they’ll aim for a swift return to top-tier football.
