Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, believes “it is time to move on” after captain Andre Ayew was dropped from the 26-man squad for the upcoming clashes against Mali and the Central African Republic.
Otto Addo did not include Ayew in the list despite the Le Havre attacker scoring five goals and helping the French Ligue 1 side escape relegation.
The announcement has brought mixed reactions, but Gyan says the coach’s decision must be respected.
“For me, Andre has done so much for Ghana. He started way back in 2007 and he has been consistent in the national team. He is the most capped player,” he acknowledged to JoySports.
“I think the coach has made his decision. Personally, I played with Andre and he has done everything for Ghana but this is the situation whereby we have to move on. The coach has made his decision.”
Ghana take on Mali in June 6 in Bamako before hosting the Central African Republic in Kumasi four days later.
