Ismail Ganiyu loses Kotoko captaincy; Richard Boadu appointed ahead of new season –

Ghanaian defender Ismail Ganiyu is longer captain of Asante Kotoko, having been replaced by midfielder Richard Boadu, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The centre-back is on his way out of Kotoko. Boadu has formally written to the club, demanding the termination of his contract.

Ganiyu, who joined Kotoko from Karela United, has one year left on his contract.

Kotoko are yet to respond to the player’s letter but their latest decision suggests Ganiyu is not in their plans and will leave.

Boadu, who joined the club from Medeama less than a year ago, will be captain for the upcoming season.

First and second deputy captains are Yussif Mubarik and goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim, respectively.

Kotoko also appointed right-back Christopher Nettey as third deputy captain and new signing Pouaty Dendoum as fourth deputy captain.

Kotoko are in Sudan preparing for the 2022/23 season.
