Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Rashid Fuseini has revealed how a standout trial at English club Sheffield United led to a remarkable opportunity for his entire team, Shooting Stars.
Now 21 and plying his trade in Slovenia with Tabor, Fuseini recounted how his talent initially surprised the Blades’ scouts.
“I trialed at Sheffield United, and the first time I went there, they didn’t believe there was that much talent in Ghana,” he told Joy Sports.
“When I went there, I proved them wrong, and they were happy and decided to invite all the Shooting Stars players [for trials] so they could scout for more players.”
According to him, the original plan was to return to Ghana briefly before going back to England to train, in line with the club’s youth integration process for players under 18.
The Sheffield United trial marked the beginning of several opportunities in England, including stints with Wolves, Manchester United, and Brentford. However, Fuseini couldn’t seal a move due to age limitations.
He later began his European career with Serbian side Backa Topola before switching to Slovenian club Tabor in 2023, where he continues to rebuild his career with hopes of making a bigger leap in the near future.
