Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has strongly condemned the defacement of a mural celebrating Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey triumph, after his brother Nico Williams’ image was deliberately erased amid growing transfer speculation.
The mural, located in Barakaldo and created by artist Carlos López, initially featured key players from Bilbao’s historic 2023/24 season.
However, photos recently surfaced showing Nico’s image removed ; an act widely believed to be in response to his reported desire to join Barcelona this summer.
Inaki, visibly angered, took to social media to address the act:
“Behind an anonymous lack of respect, there is always someone too small to show their face.”
Athletic Club also issued a firm statement defending Nico, stating:
“Those who erased Nico’s image… don’t represent Athletic Club. If they think they’re part of this family, they should know they’re wrong: disrespecting one of our own is disrespecting Athletic Club itself.”
Nico, 22, has been instrumental in Bilbao’s recent success, helping them secure Copa del Rey glory and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
His consistent performances have attracted interest from top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Barcelona ; the latter believed to be his preferred destination.
