Accra Lions head coach Rainer Kraft has offered a heartfelt apology to the club’s supporters following their relegation from the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The German coach, who was appointed with the aim of solidifying the club’s top-flight status, expressed his deep disappointment after failing to avoid the drop on the final day.
“So it’s a little bit disappointing, of course,” Kraft said in his post-match interview. “But it doesn’t harm, in the end, what we are doing. And one last thing I want to say: I want to thank all the fans we have in Accra and beyond for always supporting us.”
Accra Lions were relegated after a decisive defeat to newly crowned champions Bibiani Gold Stars. Inconsistency plagued their season, and despite promising moments from their youthful squad, the team fell short in a tight relegation battle.
Kraft admitted that tactical errors and lapses in concentration cost the team key points throughout the campaign.
“This is a difficult moment for everyone involved ; the players, the staff, and especially the fans,” he added. “So really, in such a good manner, thank you very much, fans. And I’m sorry for that relegation.”
While uncertainty looms over the club’s future and Kraft’s role, sources close to the team told Kickgh.com’s Pascal Amoah that the coach is committed to leading the club back to the Premier League if given the chance.
Accra Lions join Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC as the three clubs relegated to the Division One League.
