‘I haven’t announced my retirement’ – Gyan eyes World Cup return

Asamoah Gyan has not ruled out returning to feature for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 36-year-old believes “anything can happen” and that he stands a chance of getting called up to play for Ghana at the global showpiece despite being dormant for two years.

“Anything can happen. It has happened in 1994 where Roger Miller coming back from retirement to play in the World Cup but I have not retire and I haven’t announced my retirement but I have been out for almost two years… Asamoah Gyan told BBC Sports.

“I need to get my body back in shape, so I have started training so I need to get back in shape and see how my body reacts to play competitive football.” Gyan added.

The all-time African top scorer at the World Cup last played for Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities in the 2020-21 season.

Gyan, who remains the country’s highest scorer with 51 goals, launched his book in May dubbed the “LeGyandary” entailing his autobiography, his life as a successful footballer and entrepreneur.
