Amid growing concerns over Inaki Williams’ performances for the national team, Hearts of Oak legend Amankwah Mireku advises Coach Chris Hughton to either find a way to make the Athletic Bilbao forward a pivotal player for the Black Stars or consider removing him from the squad.
The 29 year old striker who switched his international allegiance in May last year is yet to find the back of the net after 10 appearances.
In an interview with Happy FM, Mireku joined the chorus of criticism, highlighting Williams’ goal drought and lack of impact. Mireku stated, “Since his debut for Ghana, what has he accomplished? Absolutely nothing. He’s yet to find the net, and other players deserve a chance to showcase their talents. Inaki may need a break from the team since he hasn’t shown much in over nine appearances.”
Mireku further encouraged Chris Hughton to be more practical in addressing Ghana’s scoring issues, even suggesting the possibility of seeking advice from Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde on how to unlock Williams’ goal-scoring potential for the national team.
“So why continue giving him playing time in the team to prove what? If the coach feels he is too important to lose, then there should be a consultation with the coach of Athletic Bilbao on how to unlock the player so he can score goals for Ghana.”
Ghana have two crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and the Comoros Islands in November.
