Hearts of Oak are in pole position to sign Swedru All Blacks left-back Abdul Aziz, despite strong interest from Medeama SC during the current transfer window.
The 27-year-old has made it clear that Hearts of Oak are his preferred destination after an impressive 2025/26 campaign, in which he helped Swedru All Blacks retain their Ghana Premier League status.
Aziz played 27 league matches last season and established himself as one of the division’s most highly regarded defenders. His performances were marked by defensive reliability, a strong work rate and consistent support in attack from the left flank. He also impressed with the quality of his crossing into the penalty area.
Those displays have attracted interest from several leading clubs, although Hearts of Oak and Medeama have emerged as the main contenders for his signature.
Sources close to the player say Aziz has prioritised a move to Hearts of Oak because he believes the Accra club can provide the right platform for the next stage of his career. He is understood to be attracted by the club’s history, its passionate support and its ambition to compete for major honours after narrowly missing out on the Ghana Premier League title last season.
Hearts of Oak have begun formal discussions with Swedru All Blacks and remain confident that an agreement can be reached. The club has identified Aziz as a priority target as it works to strengthen its squad before the start of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Medeama have also made their interest clear and are keen to take the defender to Tarkwa. The reigning Ghana Premier League champions are preparing for both their domestic campaign and their CAF Champions League commitments, with defensive reinforcements among their priorities.
However, Aziz is reportedly focused on joining Hearts of Oak, meaning Medeama may face a difficult task in persuading him to change his preferred destination.
Swedru All Blacks are understood to be willing to sell the left-back if they receive an acceptable offer. Negotiations between the clubs are expected to continue in the coming days, and while no final agreement has been reached, discussions are progressing positively.
Hearts of Oak regard Aziz as a player who could immediately improve the left side of their defence. His experience in the Ghana Premier League, pace, defensive discipline and attacking contribution are seen as important qualities as the club attempts to build a squad capable of challenging for the league title.
A transfer to Hearts of Oak would represent one of the biggest moves of Aziz’s career. The defender believes joining one of Ghana’s most successful and decorated clubs would aid his development, give him a stronger opportunity to compete for trophies and improve his prospects of earning further recognition at national-team level.
Medeama’s late attempt to influence the transfer has not altered Aziz’s preference so far. Hearts of Oak remain favourites to complete the deal, largely because of the player’s desire to wear the club’s famous rainbow colours.
Unless negotiations take an unexpected turn, the Accra giants are expected to remain in the strongest position to secure Abdul Aziz before the transfer window closes.
