The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the 2026 Democracy Cup match organised by the Parliament of Ghana, with Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Asante Kotoko SC set to meet on Friday, 28 August 2026.
The fixture will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00. It will be the third edition of the Democracy Cup, which is being held to commemorate 32 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.
Both Premier League giants have given their consent to take part in the match, ensuring that the country’s two prominent clubs will contest the latest staging of the event.
The approval by the GFA confirms the match as an officially sanctioned fixture and allows Parliament to proceed with its plans for the 2026 ceremony. The event combines a celebration of Ghana’s democratic development with a meeting between two of the country’s best-known football clubs.
Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Asante Kotoko SC will face one another at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium, one of the country’s major football venues. The clubs’ agreement to participate means the third edition of the Democracy Cup will feature a contest between established rivals from Ghana’s Premier League.
Parliament of Ghana is organising the match as part of its commemoration of more than three decades of parliamentary democracy. The 2026 event is intended to mark 32 years of that democratic tradition while also supporting the role of football in national life.
In its announcement, the Ghana Football Association congratulated Parliament of Ghana for entrenching democracy in the country and for supporting football development.
The association also confirmed that the match officials have not yet been named. Their appointments will be announced by the GFA at a later date.
The fixture is therefore set for Friday, 28 August 2026, at 16:00, with Baba Yara Sports Stadium providing the venue for the third Democracy Cup. Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Asante Kotoko SC have both agreed to compete, while the GFA’s approval formally sanctions the match.
The event will bring together Parliament of Ghana, the Ghana Football Association and two of the country’s leading clubs in a fixture designed to reflect both the importance of parliamentary democracy and the contribution of football to Ghanaian public life.
