The Government of Ghana has committed GHS 130,000 (almost $30,000) to the organization of this year’s President’s Cup which will see Hearts of Oak take on rivals Asante Kotoko on July 1.

The one-off game is played annually on Ghana’s Republic Day to honour the sitting President.

Organizers, GHALCA have struggled financially in recent years in putting up the event.

The Sports Ministry this time around was heavily involved in negotiating deals with the targeted clubs.

Deputy Minister of Sports Vincent Oppong Asamoah revealed the state has invested almost $30,000 to this year’s President’s Cup with 80 percent of the total amount going to the clubs.

“The state has committed GHS 130,000 for the President’s Cup,” he revealed.

“80 percent of the amount is going to the clubs.”

This means both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will receive GHS 50,000 (almost $12,000) each in appearance fees as they square off on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
