Achraf Hakimi is back in training with Morocco and looks set to play against Mali in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations match.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender had been sidelined with an ankle injury since November, but has been making good progress in his recovery.
Coach Walid Regragui is being cautious with Hakimi’s return, but is confident he will feature in the tournament.
“He’s been working hard since his injury and doing what he has to do. He’s a hard worker. He wants to be there from the first match,” Regragui said.
Hakimi’s return is a major boost for Morocco, who are looking to win their first Cup of Nations title since 1976.
Hakimi’s leadership and experience will be crucial for Morocco as they face Mali, a strong team with top-level players.
The match is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 26, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
