Asamoah Gyan has emphasized the affectionate nature of the Ghana-Nigeria rivalry, saying, “But at the end of the day, we love each other. We are very good rivals. Anybody who says we hate each other, that’s not it. We love each other, but we don’t want the other side to win.”
The former Ghana captain stressed that the rivalry is about pride, not animosity.
“Ghana and Nigeria love each other,” Gyan said on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, highlighting the deep-seated respect between the two nations.
Despite the intense competition on the pitch, Gyan believes the bond between Ghanaians and Nigerians is rooted in mutual admiration and a desire to outdo each other.
The rivalry extends beyond football, with cultural competitions like Jollof rice adding to the excitement.
Gyan’s comments reflect the warm relationship between the two countries, even as they compete fiercely in football and other areas.
His comments also comes after Ghana’s Daniel Laryea officiated the semi final clash against Morocco.
