Retired Ghanaian footballer Reverend Osei Kofi has attributed the Black Stars’ 41-year Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title drought to a broken promise.
According to Kofi, Ghana’s failure to honour a commitment made decades ago has cursed the team, preventing them from winning the coveted trophy since 1982.
Kofi’s statement has sparked widespread debate and discussion among Ghanaian football fans, with many seeking clarification on the nature of the promise and the circumstances surrounding its breach.
“Ghana hasn’t won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982 because it hasn’t honoured its promise to us,” Rev Osei Kofi told Sporty FM.
Ghana hasn’t won the AFCON trophy since 1982, and recent performances have been disappointing, with back-to-back group-stage exits.
The sad part is that the West African giants will not be at the 2025 continental showpiece set to be staged in Morocco after failing to win a single game in the qualification campaign, picking up just three points after six matches.
Rev Osei Kofi won the Africa Cup of Nations trophy for Ghana in 1963 and 1965.
