Ghanaian youngster Kwabena Appiah-Kubi missed an opportunity to win the Australian A-League title as his Western Sydney Wanderers were beaten 2-0 by the Central Coast Mariners in the playoffs final.

The 20-year-old started the game for Wanderers who were in pursuit of the top flight title in just their first season in the A-League.

He lasted 72 minutes before being replaced by experienced Terek Elrich in the game played at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

Goals from Patrick Zwaanswijk and Daniel McBreen in the 44th and 68th minute respectively to clinch Mariners’ first A-League title in their nine-years of existence.
