Nana Kwame Abraham, a midfielder for Barau FC, was attacked by Katsina United fans during a Nigerian Professional Football League match, suffering a deep cut to his neck.
The incident happened after Barau FC equalized in their Week 12 fixture, with the match being temporarily halted.
Barau FC confirmed the attack on X, posting a photo of the injured player with blood on his neck.The match ended 1-1, but the violence has raised concerns over fan behavior and security in the NPFL.
This incident follows a recent case where Kano Pillars supporters attacked a referee after a late equalizer.
Nana Kwame, 23, joined Barau FC from Nigerien side AS GNN and has made seven appearances this season.
“Katsina United | 1–1 | Barau FC,” Barau FC wrote, along with a photo of the injured player.
The club condemned the attack, saying, “70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham.”
