Ghanaian defender Lawrence Agyekum scores in FC Liefering’s narrow defeat to Ried

Ghanaian defender Lawrence Agyekum found the back of the net for FC Liefering, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory as Ried emerged 3-2 winners in the Austrian Bundesliga 2.

The match played at the Innviertel Arena, saw Agyekum starting the game and playing the full 90 minutes. The head-to-head record between the two teams before the game was heavily tilted in Ried’s favor with five wins, compared to Liefering’s single victory, and three draws.

Liefering got off to a dream start when Agyekum scored in the 2nd minute, sending the ball into the left corner from approximately 17 meters out. However, Ried quickly responded with Nikki Havenaar equalizing in the 13th minute after receiving the ball from a short corner and outmuscling two Liefering defenders to score a header.

Moussa Kounfolo Yeo of Liefering restored his team’s lead in the 69th minute, but Ried fought back with Wilfried Eza leveling the score in the 79th minute. In a dramatic finale, Fabian Wohlmuth scored in the 89th minute to seal the victory for Ried.

Agyekum’s compatriot, Lumor Agbenyenu, also featured in the game for Ried, playing 46 minutes before being substituted.

Lawrence Agyekum has made eight appearances, scored one goal and assisted one in the league this season.
