Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu has started light training in Portugal after recovering from injury.

The winger was ruled out Porto’s league match against his former side Rio Ave on Saturday due to the thigh setback.

The hugely-talented player contracted an adductor muscle injury but started light training on Tuesday night which is a boost for his club.

The Ghanaian international trained away from the group in the company’s fitness coach Raul Costa.

Atsu suffered the setback in training and was available for head coach Vitor Pereira in that key match over the weekend.

His return is a boost for both Ghana and Porto as the two sides are eyeing key matches over the next four weeks.

Atsu was impressive as a second half substitute in the 1-0 win over Malaga in the UEFA Champions League round 16 first leg tie last week.

The winger has been impressive since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Atsu has made 11 appearances for Porto this term and scored one goal.

He played last season on loan at Rio Ave where he was named Player of the Year.
