Ghana Premier League clubs set for GH¢9.5m support and prize package

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku says GH¢9.5 million will be made available to clubs through prize money and financial support during the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The package will include rewards for the leading teams at the end of the campaign, as well as direct funding for every club before the new season begins.

The champions will receive GH¢3 million, while the runners-up will be awarded GH¢1 million.

The team finishing third is set to collect GH¢800,000, with the fourth-placed club receiving GH¢750,000.

In addition to the end-of-season prize money, every Ghana Premier League club will be given GH¢1 million before the start of the 2026/27 campaign.

Mr Okraku said that funding would help clubs meet the demands of preparing for and operating during the new season. The support is intended to provide clubs with greater financial stability as they get ready to compete in Ghana’s top flight.

The GFA president said the overall package formed part of wider efforts to strengthen the Ghana Premier League. He described the financial commitment as a way of giving clubs more assistance in managing their operations and preparing their teams.

The announcement combines two forms of support. The first is the prize structure for the teams that finish in the leading positions, with the champions receiving the largest award of GH¢3 million. The runners-up will receive GH¢1 million, while third and fourth place carry prizes of GH¢800,000 and GH¢750,000 respectively.

The second element is the GH¢1 million allocation to each Premier League club before the season starts. That money will be provided to support preparations and operations, rather than being tied to a club’s final position in the table.

The 2026/27 season will therefore begin with clubs expecting both pre-season financial assistance and the prospect of competing for significant prize money at the end of the campaign.

According to Mr Okraku, the package is designed to improve the level of support available across the division, not only to the eventual champions. While the winners will receive the biggest single prize, clubs throughout the league will have access to the announced funding before the new season.

The GFA has not provided any further details in the announcement about how or when the payments will be distributed. The figures announced by Mr Okraku cover the GH¢9.5 million prize and support package for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
