Government is considering a coordinated effort to ensure Ghanaian supporters are present at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.
The proposal centres on a special fundraising drive that will determine how many fans can travel to the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Adams disclosed that the idea has already received policy backing and is now moving into an implementation phase.
“The policy that we should take fans is clear. It is clear that we should work at it, and that is why we have set up a fundraising committee,” he said during a radio interview.
The committee’s mandate is to mobilise financial support specifically for fan travel and accommodation.
Adams stressed that the final number of supporters will be dictated strictly by available resources.
“The number we would take ultimately will depend on how much we raise.”
He emphasised that the initiative requires national involvement beyond government support alone.
“This is why we are appealing to corporate bodies, companies, mining firms and well-meaning individuals to come on board and support this initiative,” he added.
Ghana will face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L as they target a strong showing at the expanded global tournament.
