The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has given approval for the J.A Kufuor Cup match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.

The special game to be played in honour of the former Ghana president has been scheduled for Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Kufuor Cup is being organized by the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation as part of activities marking the former President’s 85th birthday anniversary.

The foundation requested permission from the GFA to host the match, which will feature giants Asante Kotoko and Premier League side Nsoatreman FC.

The GFA has approved the request and confirmed that the Kufuor Cup will take place at 3 pm on February 18.

“The GFA is pleased to inform you that approval has been granted to The John A. Kufuor Foundation to organise a football match dubbed ‘Kufuor Cup’ between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.

“We wish to support the match with match balls and also provide the match officials.

“We are assured that the two premier league teams shall abide by all the relevant GFA regulations to ensure a successful match and bring a befitting honour to His Excellency.”

However, the domestic football governing body has rescheduled matches involving Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC in the FA Cup round of 16.

The Porcupine Warriors were supposed to travel to Tamale to face Karela United, whiles Nsoatreman FC were to host Berekum Chelsea on February 18.

But the FA has made a new provision for both Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC, moving their games forward.

Karela United will now host Kotoko at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Tuesday, February 13, while Nsoatreman FC will host Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Konamansa Park on Wednesday, February 14.
