Ghana defender David Addy will be playing in next season’s Europa League after helping Vitoria Guimaraes to the to the finals of the Portuguese Cup on Thursday.
The 23-year-old lasted the entire duration in his side’s 1-0 win over Belenenses in the semi finals of the Tarca de Portugal.
Vitoria Guimaraes will now face Benefica in the finals of the Portuguese Cup on May 26 but are already guaranteed European football next season.
This is because their Portuguese Cup final opponent; Benefica have all but sealed an European spot next season Champions League as they lead the Portuguese league with five games left to play.
The Europa League slot originally reserved for the winners of the Tarca de Portugal is now automatically transferred to the Vitoria Guimaraes as a finalist even before the grand finale is played.
This means Ghana defender David Addy will be making his debut in European club competition next season.
The ex Wa All Stars player has been a regular for his club since arriving from FC Porto at the beginning of the campaign.
He has missed just five games in the Portuguese top flight this term due to an injury.
