Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah not scared by in-form Cristiano Ronaldo

Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah insists he is not intimidated by Cristiano Ronaldo’s rich vein of scoring form ahead of their FIFA 2014 World Cup finals clash.

The Black Stars will face Portugal in their final Group G clash on June 26 in Brasilia.

Ronaldo, the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year, has been in swashbuckling form for his club Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals in seven games in the UEFA Champions League for Real and leads the scorers chart in the Spanish La Liga.

“We are not preparing for Ronaldo. Not at all we are preparing for all teams because we are not playing only Ronaldo,” Appiah said.

“Ronaldo is the world player and there is no doubt that he is critical to the course of the Portuguese team but for us we are not going to be distracted because him.

“I am not bothered because we are playing Portugal because the World Cup is the biggest stage and there are no small team, every team who qualifies has done so on merits.

“We are playing against the best and we can not do anything about that we just have to get ourselves ready.”

Ghana open their campaign USA on 16 June, in a repeat of last 16 clash in South Africa four years ago, before taking on the Germany.
