The President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, has applauded efforts to improve the quality of football pitches in the country.
Speaking at an event in Accra, Fianoo commended the recent sinking of boreholes to aid in the irrigation of football pitches, calling it a step in the right direction.
Fianoo emphasized the importance of having good quality pitches in order to improve the level of football played in the country. “A good pitch will definitely give you good football. The target is to have good pitches,” he said.
The GHALCA boss also noted that the problem of poor pitch conditions was not limited to Ghana alone, citing examples of substandard pitches in South Africa.
Fianoo’s comments come at a time when efforts are being made to upgrade the quality of football facilities in Ghana.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently launched a project to improve football pitches across the country, with a focus on schools and grassroots facilities.
The project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, involves the sinking of boreholes to ensure adequate water supply for irrigation.
The initiative has been welcomed by stakeholders in the football industry, who see it as a much-needed intervention to address the issue of poor pitch conditions.
The poor state of football facilities in Ghana has been a long-standing concern, with many pointing to it as a key factor behind the country’s inability to compete at the highest levels of international football.
