The Ghana Football Association Executive Council will decide whether Carlos Queiroz remains Black Stars head coach when it meets on Friday to examine his technical report from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese coach’s future will be the central issue at the meeting, with the report expected to provide the basis for discussions about Ghana’s next step. Executive Council members are set to determine whether the 73-year-old should continue in the role ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Queiroz took charge of the national team in April, replacing Otto Addo. He led Ghana through the group stage of the World Cup, where the Black Stars recorded a victory over Panama, drew with England and lost to Croatia.
Ghana progressed to the Round of 32 but saw its campaign come to an end in the knockout stage after a narrow 1-0 defeat by Colombia.
The technical report submitted by Queiroz covers the team’s tournament campaign and will be reviewed by the GFA’s highest decision-making body. Its conclusions, alongside the discussions at Friday’s meeting, will help determine whether the coach is retained or replaced before the next major qualification campaign.
The decision comes with Ghana preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, making the timing of the Executive Council’s review particularly significant for the Black Stars’ immediate plans.
Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, has already publicly backed Queiroz staying in charge. Mahama said he was confident that keeping the current team and coaching structure together could give the country a stronger chance of competing for future continental and global honours.
That endorsement provides support for Queiroz as the GFA considers his report, but the final decision rests with the Executive Council. The body will assess the Portuguese coach’s work at the 2026 World Cup before deciding whether he will lead Ghana into the next phase of its international programme.
Queiroz’s appointment followed Otto Addo’s departure from the position in April, and his first major assignment was to guide Ghana through the World Cup. The Black Stars secured results against Panama and England before their defeat by Croatia in the group stage, then advanced to the Round of 32.
Their progress ended against Colombia, who won 1-0 in the knockout stage. The outcome means the Executive Council’s review will consider a campaign that included progression beyond the group stage but ended in a closely fought defeat.
Friday’s meeting will therefore determine whether Ghana continues with Queiroz and the existing coaching setup or begins preparing for a change before the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
