The FIFA Women’s Football campaign for U-12 girls in the Ashanti Region kicked off at the Opoku Ware School Park in Kumasi on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
The 32 participating schools were grouped into four Districts, namely Suame, Kwadaso, Kumasi Metro and Asokore Mampong Municipal.
The program, running until November 13, will provide a unique platform to encourage girls’ participation in Women’s Football at the grassroots level whilst promoting the game and implementing the Women’s Football Strategy.
Head of Women’s Football development at the Ghana Football Association, Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong reiterated the Association’s support for the Women’s game at the opening of the program.
“The GFA has Women’s football at heart. We are starting from the grassroots to get the future of Women’s football in Ghana to the highest level. This project is purely a FIFA initiative but it’s aligned with the GFA’s Football4Girls.” she said.
“It is FIFA’s vision to get 60 million girls to play active football by 2027. The GFA wants to get girls to enjoy football right from the start hence the introduction of football right from the basic schools” she added.
